Degarelix

Degarelix is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist that competitively binds to GnRH receptors in the anterior pituitary gland. It rapidly and effectively inhibits the release of gonadotropins (luteinizing hormone, LH, and follicle-stimulating hormone, FSH), thereby reducing testosterone secretion. In men, elevated testosterone levels are associated with various diseases, and by suppressing testosterone secretion, degarelix exerts its therapeutic effects.

It is primarily used to treat advanced prostate cancer. Degarelix is an effective treatment option for patients who are unsuitable for or unwilling to undergo surgical castration, as well as those who are intolerant to or have not responded well to other androgen deprivation therapies.
