Cosyntropin

The action of cosyntropin is the same as that of adrenocorticotropic hormone. It can stimulate the adrenal cortex to secrete corticosteroids, mainly cortisol.

Adrenal Cortex Function Examination: By injecting cosyntropin and observing the changes in the concentration of cortisol in the blood, it is possible to determine whether the function of the adrenal cortex is normal.
Treatment of Certain Diseases: It can be used in the treatment of some diseases such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Patients who are treated with corticosteroids for a long time can be administered cosyntropin in combination to prevent adrenal atrophy.
